CA Championship

K.J. Choi came so close last week finishing 2nd by a shot in Malaysia.... well played tour insider! Only a miraculous up and down by the 18 year old Noh on the final hole stopped us from landing the 16/1 shot. An 8pt profit is still nice. The US golf was not even close. Allenby MC and Ernie well out of contention. So a 3pt profit for the week and -4pts is the running total.

So on to this week. No European Tour event and no real interest in the US Tour Puerto Rico Open. So the WGC CA Championship will be the focus.

Mickelson defends, a single figure price in a competitive field is a bit of a turn off. I think he will go well. I also think last weeks winner Villegas and world number 2 Stricker will be right there on Sunday but at 18/1 and 14/1 do not carry much value. Stricker has shot under par in his last 12 rounds and therefore every round in 2010!

I do like Casey, 3 top tens in a row and 6th in greens in regulation. Still short at 18/1 but those stats are hard to ignore. With wind forecast for at least Friday, a reformed Goosen gets the nod. He has shown signs of returning to his best, with one of the best short games around I would take the 40/1.

I really, really want to put Furyk in. He has great course form. He led the birdie count here in '08 and 2nd in '09 and finished top 3 here in those years. If he was bigger than 40/1 he would be in but he is only 25/1. He has never gone so far into the season without a top ten so he can not be backed at this price. Vijay found some form last week and does well here but I am not convinced with his putting especially if the wind is up.

So Dustin Johnson, this guy has already won this year and is the only player apart from Woods to win in his first 3 years on tour. He is a great bet for the majors this year. The perfect game for Augusta and St. Andrews, a multiple winner at Pebble Beach. A very long hitter and a great putter, He is the real deal. At 40/1 he is a bet.

Kuchar is the final selection. Back him at 100/1. That is value. He is a great putter and 9th in birdies per round.

Here they are:

0.5pts each way Matt Kuchar @ 100/1 CA Championship

1.5pts each way Paul Casey @ 18/1 CA Championship

1pt each way Retief Goosen @ 40/1 CA Championship

1pt each way Dustin Johnson @ 40/1 CA Championship
