Canadian Open

Bubba Watson came through in the Travellers Championship to put us back in profit. His win at 66/1 boosted us to +40.75pts. So if you have been following my tips for £10 per point you would now be £407.50 up. Good....

So forward to this weeks Canadian Open. The PGA Tour stop in at St. George's Golf and Country Club, Ontario for the first time since 1968 when Nicklaus lost to Bob Charles by 2. A 7000 yard par 70 with five par 3's and two of the three par 5's as the top two stroke indices means I will be looking for players with excellent course strategy. In 2002 the course underwent a redesign focusing on updating the bunkers, as a result many of the bunkers have the unique characteristic of sitting above the greens meaning many of the shots in the bunkers will be from downhill lies. Therefore there is a big premium on hitting greens.

Sean O' Hair is absolute class. One of the best swingers and ball strikers out there. He is also in great form. He has 6 top 25's in his last 7 starts and nothing worse than T12 in the last 4, including T7 in The Open. He was T6 in fairways and T13 in fairways at The Memorial and T3 in greens at the AT&T. He makes plenty of appeal at 20/1.

I have to discount favourite Paul Casey after his efforts and disappointment in The Open last week, plus the fact he has played every day since, including the Mike Weir Charity day on Monday!! By the way Mike Weir, the lowest ranked Canadian is one to take on.... he hits it short and wild (not a good combo!!) and has severe tendonitis in his elbow. He has rested up all week in the hope he will be able to take part.

My most popular tip gets another chance this week. I keep my faith with Matt Kuchar. He rewarded us with a place in the US Open and remains one of the best this season without a victory. He continues to dominate his rivals in the All Round Ranking stat and scrambling. He is 20th in greens hit and 25th in sand saves. He finished 27th at The Open and has earned $2.3 million this year.... about time he made us some, take the 28/1.

Hello Matt Jones, the young Australian finished 5th in the John Deere 2 weeks ago, where he was 15th in greens, 12th in putting and 5th in birdies. He is 7th in the All Round Ranking, 22nd in sand saves and 41st in birdies or better on par 3's. Eight top 25's in 19 starts he makes plenty of appeal at 66/1, that is great value.

The players interviewed this week all agreed it is going to be a tough week and single figures under par would be the winning the score.... so lets hope at least one of these three gets into the double digits for us.

A mention also has to go for The Seniors British Open. Tom Lehman was in great form at St. Andrews and his exceptional long game should see him go very close at Carnoustie.
