Nordea Masters and FedEx St Jude Classic

Tough week last week. Zero excitement. Lets forget it and move forward. The biggest regret was not being on Woods…. he looks back to his best and it may be a while before we get 16/1 about him again. I would like to be with him at the US Open but 5/1 is very very short.

This week is the Nordea Masters in Sweden (starts Wednesday) and the FedEx St Jude in the States. The Nordea could be anything. Last year the players got battered by strong winds on a tough golf course. It could be the same this year. Solid ball strikers have a great record in this event so it is hard to look past the front four. Westwood (6/1), Garcia (14/1), Peter Hanson (14/1) and Noren (16/1) are certainly look the most likely. I would have been very keen on Westwood at 9/1 or 10/1 as his game should be peaking for the US Open and he has a great record in events he does not care about. He could walk this. The next three look clear of the rest but none really represent significant value so it is hard to recommend anything in this outright market. What I would recommend is a small play on Westwood for the US Open. Olympic is long and reports say the rough is up which will suit Westwood perfectly. If he goes well this week there will be no 16/1 available next week and if he has a bad week I can’t see the price expanding significantly.

The FedEx St Jude is a withdrawal fest and the quality once again is very top heavy. Zach Johnson is the 9/1 jolly. He is a player in form having finished 2nd, 2nd, 1st in his last three starts and has two top 15s in his three starts at TPC Southwind. The 9/1 does make sense but is too short for me. Mcilroy has missed his last three cuts and has posted some big numbers. That has made him a tidy price this week. He is so far inside it on his downswing it is scary but that is what he has always done. It is what makes him one dimensional (just hits a big hook), but it is also what has made him great. He has a point to prove this week and I like the 11/1. It is a big price about Rory in a weak field.

My advice comes with a point system to rate the strength of a tip. A 1 point bet means placing your usual stake, so if you would consider your normal bet being £10 then a point signifies £10.
